FAQ

The permitted dimensions and weights of vehicles are set out in Decree No 209/2018 Coll., on vehicle weights, dimensions and connectivity. According to this decree, the following limits apply:
- The maximum allowed length of a motor vehicle is 12 m.
- The maximum allowed length of the combination of a motor vehicle with a semi-trailer is 16.50 m.
- The maximum allowed length of a vehicle with one trailer is 18,75 m.
- The maximum allowed width of the vehicle is 2,55 m.
- The maximum allowed height of the vehicle is 4,00 m (4,08 m for a towing vehicle with a semi-trailer).

The maximum allowed weight of road vehicles must not exceed:
(a) for motor vehicles with two axles, 18,00 t,
(b) in the case of motor vehicles with three axles, 25,00 t if the driving axle is fitted with double mounted tyres and air suspension or suspension recognised as equivalent, or if each driving axle is fitted with double mounted tyres and the maximum axle load does not exceed 9,50 t 26,00 t,
(c) for motor vehicles with four or more axles, 32,00 t,
(d) for trailers with two axles, 18,00 t,
(e) for trailers with three axles, 24,00 t,
(f) for trailers with four or more axles, 32,00 t,
(g) for double articulated buses 28,00 t,
(h) for three-articulated articulated buses, 32,00 t,
(i) for combination vehicles, 48,00 t,
(j) for tracked vehicles, 18,00 t

Truck (solo):

In compliance with the maximum permissible axle weight according to § 5 of Decree No. 209/2018 Coll.

International transport:

single permit valid for 30 days, for a specific route, valid in one direction only

Internal transport in the territory of the Czech Republic:

single permit valid for 14 days, for a specific route, valid in one direction only

Permanent permit up to 48t, valid for 3 months, for the whole territory of the Czech Republic, except for the sections specified in the 'Further conditions of carriage'
Permanent permit up to 60t valid for 3 months, for specific routes

If the total dimensions of the transport exceed 22.00 m in length, 3.20 m in width, 4.50 m in height and 50.00 t in weight /even individually/, an escort vehicle authorised for this activity is required.
The number of escort vehicles required is specified in the single permit.

If the transport unit exceeds 50.00 m in length, 5.50 m in width (6.00 m on the motorway), 150.00 t in weight /even individually/, a police escort is usually necessary.

The amount of compensation for providing a police escort:
(1) The amount of compensation for the provision of a police escort shall be determined as the sum of CZK 600 for each calendar day for which the police escort is provided and the total amount of other costs associated with the provision of the police escort.

(2) Other costs associated with the provision of police escort shall be

(a) 400 CZK for 1 hour of service of a police officer who participated in the police escort,

(b) CZK 15 per 1 km travelled by the official vehicle of the Police of the Czech Republic used during the police escort; and

c) the purchase price of the material consumed by the Police of the Czech Republic during the police escort, excluding fuel.".
